Member of the public commits suicide at the Domestic Violence and Harassment Court, Pretoria

A member of the public committed suicide this morning at the Rondalia Building which houses the Domestic Violence and Harassment Court in Pretoria. The deceased, whose name cannot be released until his family is informed, was scheduled to appear at the court today.

The man committed suicide shortly after entering the court by using what is suspected to be a fire-work which is believed to have been concealed in his mouth. He was certified dead on the scene. Other members of the public were moved out of the building and directed to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for service today. Services are expected to resume tomorrow morning at Rondalia Building, as usual.

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development has made counselling arrangements for members of the public and staff members who were affected by the incident. A full investigation will also be undertaken into the incident.
