National Wills Week

This year National Wills Week will take place from 15-19 September 2025 and Legal Practitioners will be called upon to provide free legal advice and free drafting of wills.

National Wills Week to Promote Free Will Drafting Services. Thabiso Tema spoke with Advocate Kanyane Mathibe, Chief Director: Strategy and Policy.


Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, announces the launch of National Wills Week, which runs from 15 to 19 September 2025.

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, in partnership with the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), Legal Aid South Africa (LASA) and other stakeholders, leads this initiative to provide members of the public with free assistance to draft a basic Will *during this period*.

Minister Kubayi emphasises through this message that drafting a valid Will remains one of the most important steps individuals can take to protect their families, ensure their wishes are respected, and prevent disputes after their passing.
