The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, together with Deputy Minister Andries Nel, will deliver the Department’s annual Budget Vote speech before Parliament on Tuesday, 12 May 2026 at 10:00.
The stakeholder engagement which will be held after the tabling of the budget will form part of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development’s commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The engagement which will include a Roundtable discussion will bring together government representatives, civil society, young students and academia under the theme: “30 Years of Constitutional Democracy: Reflecting on Our Journey, Renewing Democratic Values, and Recommitting to Justice, Accountability, and Inclusive Transformation”.
Amongst other things, the engagement will provide a platform for reflection on the impact of the Constitution over the past 30 years, assessment of the role of civil society and academia in advancing constitutional values, and identification of emerging threats and opportunities facing constitutional democracy.
The engagement will also encourage broader public participation, particularly among young people, in reflecting on their role as custodians of the Constitution and contributors to a just, united, and prosperous South Africa.
