Minister Kubayi to engage Eldorado Park Community on Youth in conflict with the Law

12 Jun 2025

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, will as part of the Youth Month commemoration, lead a Community Outreach Programme to engage the community of Eldorado Park on issues affecting vulnerable children and young people in conflict with the law on 14 June 2025.

The initiative is undertaken in partnership with her Parliamentary Constituency Office, relevant government Departments such as the Gauteng Social Development, the South African Police Service, and the Correctional Services, as well as various community-based structures.

Eldorado Park faces serious socio-economic challenges, including unemployment, drug-related violence, and underdevelopment, which fuel substance abuse and put youth at risk of criminal behaviour.

The outreach programme aims to address the root causes of these issues, such as adverse childhood experiences, through integrated justice and community-based interventions to break the cycle of vulnerability and harmful behaviour.

Minister Kubayi’s programme reinforces the constitutional duty to protect and rehabilitate children in conflict with the law.

As part of the initiative, Minister Kubayi will raise awareness about risky behaviour and engage with the youth, offering support and encouraging positive transformation.

This outreach forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to create safer, more inclusive communities, while upholding the rights of vulnerable children and addressing the social determinants that contribute to youth offending.
