Minister of Justice to host community outreach on Maintenance and Domestic Violence Issues in Greenbushes, Gqeberha

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi, together with her Parliamentary Constituency Office, will host a Community Outreach Programme on Friday, 23 May 2025, at Kuyga Community Hall in Greenbushes, Gqeberha.

The outreach forms part of the Department’s Child Protection Month activities and is aimed at raising awareness and educating the local community about services related to Child Maintenance and Domestic Violence, as well as the procedures involved in accessing these critical justice support mechanisms.

The programme also underscores the Department’s commitment to enhancing access to justice services, especially for vulnerable and marginalised communities.

Community leaders have highlighted a range of challenges facing the area, including drug and alcohol abuse, high crime levels, rampant gangsterism, unemployment, and limited access to police services due to the closure of the Rocklands Police Station and the long distance to Kabega Park SAPS.

These conditions have created a heightened risk of domestic violence and placed additional strain on vulnerable families seeking child maintenance support.

Other issues raised include frequent theft of school infrastructure, a high number of children not attending school, and the lack of birth certificates and identification documents among both children and their parents.

The outreach will serve as a platform for the Department to engage directly with residents, listen to their concerns, and promote access to justice in this underserved community.
