The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, will tomorrow, Tuesday, 06 May 2025, visit the family of the late Mr Elona Sombulula, a young prosecutor who was tragically gunned down earlier this week in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape.
Mr Sombulula, a graduate of the NPA’s Aspirant Prosecutor Programme, joined the authority in 2022 and was serving as an acting Regional Court Prosecutor at the time of his death.
Mr Sombulula was shot and killed on the evening of Tuesday, 29 April 2025, under mysterious circumstances.
An investigation into the motive and circumstances of the murder is currently underway.
During her visit, Minister Kubayi will offer her personal condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirm the Ministry’s support for all prosecutors who continue to serve the country with integrity and courage.
The Minister calls on all relevant law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and diligently to uncover the truth behind the murder.
