26 November 2023
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development will as part of 16 Days of Activism Campaign, host an imbizo with a focus on Gender Based Violence (GBV) at Mashishimale near Phalaborwa.
Phalaborwa is one of the areas with exponential rise in GBV related offences, the imbizo forms part of Departmental efforts to end the scourge of GBV in our communities. President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law the three GBV Acts to strengthen the fight against this scourge.
These acts have amongst others, brought about the cessation of Police bail in GBV offences and the criminalisation of by-standerism. The deliberations will be anchored around these acts and how stakeholders as well as the community members can work together to end GBV.
