The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will on Saturday, 25 November 2023, lead the handover and reburial ceremony of the exhumed remains of former PAC member, Isaac Masigo. The handover ceremony will be held at Tswelelang Youth Centre at Wolmaransstad in the North West province.
Mr Isaac Masigo is one of the six individuals who were recruited to the PAC at Baviaanspoort prison while serving prison sentences for other offences. He was sentenced to death on 14 April 1965 and got executed on 19 November 1965 at the then Pretoria Central Prison. The remains of Mr Isaac Masigo have since been positively identified and ready for handover and reburial.
This event is part of the Gallows Exhumation Project, an initiative aimed at identifying, exhuming and facilitating the reburial of political prisoners who were hanged on the gallows by the apartheid regime and subsequently buried in unmarked graves. The prisoners were mainly members of the Pan Africanist Congress armed wing, POQO and the United Democratic Front.
