The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will on Thursday 31 August 2023, preside over the spiritual repatriation and cleansing ceremony of Mr Bellington Mampe at Worcester Correctional Centre.
The slain activist, who was a member of POQO, the military wing of the PAC, was arrested by the apartheid police under the General Law Amendment Act 37 of 1963. He was detained and interrogated for 140 days before being transferred to the hospital wing of the Worcester prison.
Mr Mampe (30) unfortunately passed away and got buried at Zwelethemba cemetery at Worcester by distant related family friends who were the residents in the nearby informal settlement of Zwelethemba at the time. The Missing Persons Task Team Investigations revealed that all the records of his detention and hospitalization were destroyed.
