Justice Department to host an information session on GBV in Krugersdorp

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, will on Friday 28 July 2023, host an information session in partnership with civil society at the West Village community, in Krugersdorp.

The information sharing session is part of the Department’s programme of engagements to empower communities with information, including giving an update on new gender-based violence legislation and available support services. These engagements also serve to strengthen the much needed partnership in the fight against the scourge of gender based violence and femicide.

The West Village area was prioritised for the information session due to reports of high numbers of sexual offences incidents. The area is also the site of one of the darkest moments in the country’s fight against GBV where 8 women were attacked and raped in July 2022.
