Deputy Minister Jeffery to address Provincial Symposium as part of the 25th Anniversary of the Constitution Celebrations

01 December 2021

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will deliver the keynote address at a provincial symposium on the Constitution, in Cape Town on Thursday, 02 December 2021.

The rationale for the provincial symposia, which will take place in all nine provinces over the next few months, is to create a platform where representatives of government and civil society, academics, leading experts and Chapter 9 institutions, among others, can reflect on issues which affect constitutionalism and impact our Constitutional democracy. The provincial symposia will culminate in a national symposium in 2022.

Some of the themes to be discussed include the current state of our democracy, nation building, gender equality, social and economic empowerment, as well issues of service delivery and social stability.

The DOJ&CD is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Constitution, which was signed into law by former President Nelson Mandela on 10 December 1996, under the theme: ‘One Constitution, One Nation’.
