South Africa is making significant headway in the fight against trafficking in persons. In commemoration of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development will address a National Workshop on the Deployment of the SADC Regional Trafficking in Persons Data Collection System on Tuesday, 30 July 2019, hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the SADC Secretariat and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
The Deputy Minister will deliver the keynote address which will focus on the new Data Collection System and also on South Africa’s efforts to combat Trafficking in Persons.
The aim of the workshop is to support the South African government’s efforts to collect national TIP data at country level in a coordinated manner in order to understand the nature and extent of the crime.
The workshop follows the launch of the National Policy Framework (NPF) in April this year which seeks to ensure that government departments and stakeholders from civil society are collectively guided in the implementation of our anti-trafficking responses. One of the key actions of the NPF is to establish a reliable TIP data collection and management system that is supported by all stakeholders.
