21 November 2018
As part of commemorating 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children and in pursuance of government’s commitment to fight the scourge of gender-based violence, the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv. Michael Masutha, will on Saturday 24 November 2018 officially launch the Botshabelo Sexual Offences Court and preside over Ministerial Imbizo.
Sexual Offences Courts were reintroduced by the Department in August 2013 to provide specialised redress to victims of sexual offences and to reduce the turnaround time in the finalisation of sexual offences cases.
Minister Masutha will immediately after the launch, preside over an imbizo with community members at the same venue. An Imbizo is a platform where community members interact directly with government Ministers on service delivery issues. The focus of the imbizo will be on the overall justice services.
Officials from the Departments of Justice and Correctional Services as well as entities such as the NPA, Legal Aid Board and the SIU will set up service desks at the Botshabelo Court where members of the public will be able to access immediate services.
Members of the media are invited to the event as follows:
