Regional Office hosts Moot Court Winners

DOJCD Regional Head, Adv.  Hishaam Mohamed hosted the winners, Clara-Marie Macheke and Claire Rankin, of the International Moot Competition to congratulate them on their outstanding achievement. The girls  won the top spot at the International Moot Competition at the International Criminal Court Peace Palace in The Hague after the beat Team USA in the finals on Friday, 22 January.  Both girls are currently in matric at the Springfield Convent in the Western Cape.

In a congratulatory ceremony which was held at the Townhouse Hotel, Cape Town on Tuesday 26 January 2016, Adv Mohamed said: “We as the department are ecstatic and very proud of the girls who have excelled against the best in the world. Clara-Marie and Claire have done the entire country proud.”

The girls took advantage of the opportunity to engage with Adv. Mohamed and tapped into his legal knowledge and experience.  Adv. Mohamed in turn encouraged the girls with his legal wisdom, as both are now eager to study law after their matric year in 2016.  The girls have indicated an interest in the prosecution services and the field of Human Rights Law.

In attendance were the Springfield Convent School Principal, Ms B Houghton, the parents of the girls, Ms P Boock, Springfield Convent Public Relations Officer, WCED Officials Ms S Majiet and Mr R Essau, and attorney Ms T. Babb.
