April 27, 2024, marks 30 years of democracy, human rights, and freedom in South Africa. It was on this day in 1994 when South Africans of all racial backgrounds participated in the first democratic elections that changed the face of the nation.

As we reflect on this significant milestone, Minister Ronald Lamola and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development convened the National Conference to assess the progress and chart a way forward in advancing human rights since 1994, under the theme: “Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights”.
