Launch and walkabout of various Justice Service Points to be taken by Deputy Minister John Jeffery
02 May 2018
Ahead of the tabling of the Budget Vote of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery will undertake the launch and walkabout of justice service points in the Western Cape on 4 May 2018 as follows:
- The launch of the Mitchells Plain Municipal Court from 8H30 – 11h15. The launch of the court forms part of the department’s quest to broaden access to justice for all.
It is envisaged that the court will provide relief to the court roll of Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court as all the municipal and traffic bylaws infringements will now be dealt with by the Municipal Court. Deputy Minister Jeffery will be joined by the Mayor of the City of Cape Town, Ms Patricia De Lille during the launch.
- From 11h30 to 12h00 - the Deputy Minister and the Mayor will proceed to the Mitchells Plain Sexual Offences Court. Sexual Offences Courts were reintroduced by the Department in August 2013 to provide specialized support services to victims of sexual offences, decrease turnaround times for finalization of sexual offences cases and improve conviction rates in these cases.
- From 12h50 to 13h30 – the Deputy Minister will take a walkabout and interaction at the Uistitia building which integrates various justice services on one site.
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development invested R120 500 000 on refurbishing Uistitia building, the building accommodates the Cape Town Family Court, Sexual Offences Court and provides other justice related services to the community members.
