Justice Department to mobilise communities to act against women and children abuse during 16 Days of Activism

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development urges community members to participate in a series of activities during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children. As part of its campaign, the department will embark on information sessions across the country to inform the communities about the justice programmes available to support the victims of abuse and how to report incidents of abuse.

In addition, the department will launch a Sexual Offences Court in Colesberg, Northern Cape province on 8 December 2017. Among others, the court will be equipped with a two-way communication facility used to conduct proceedings in courts prevents further trauma to victims or witnesses. These facilities seek to affirm the rights of women and children who still face the reality of violence and are denied their inherent dignity and freedoms. There are 60 blueprint sexual offences courts that have been established since August 2014.

The Department implores all citizens to actively promote and affirm the Constitutional rights of all in society. We urge all communities to take advantage of the applicable laws and report incidences of domestic violence or any form of child or woman abuse. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the attached departmental schedule for the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
