Government notes judgement on withdrawal from the ICC

22 February 2017

Government has noted the judgment delivered by the North Gauteng High Court today on the notice to withdraw from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Court declared the decision by government to withdraw from the ICC as unconstitutional and invalid, and revoked the notice of withdrawal that was submitted to the ICC.

Government will reflect on the judgment before determining whether there are grounds for appeal.
