Victims' Charter launched in the Northern Cape

picThe Victims Charter was launched in the Northern Cape at the Mothibistad Stadium near Kuruman on 27 April 2008.  The Launch formed part of the Freedom Day Celebrations which saw the people of the Northern Cape show up in numbers to celebrate this day.

Northern Cape Premier Dineo Peters delivered the keynote address in which she paid tribute to significant individuals who were key in bringing about the first democratic elections for South Africa on that day 14 years ago.

Premier Peters also launched the Victims Charter in her address.  She emphasized the responsibility that government officials have towards the public that they serve and the right that all people have to be treated with dignity and respect.

Before the Premier delivered her speech, the MEC for Safety and Liaison, Ms Themsi Madikane read the preamble to the Service Charter.  MEC Madikane also gave a brief background and overview of the Victims Charter. Thereafter the HOD’s of stakeholder departments, namely:

  • Safety and Liaison
  • SAPS
  • Justice
  • NPA
  • Health
  • Premier’s Office and
  • Social Services

were called forward to sign a Pledge to symbolize the adoption of and support to the Victims Charter by the Northern Cape.
